Under Deconstruction

This is Sunny Bean.

A play on words if you zoom in on the bottles on the American side, there’s a seal with the name of the animal in French.

I’ve often used imagery of signs to get a message across – Sunny Bean is silent in almost all his cartoons. This is one of my favourite of my newer cartoons.

After a lengthy absence, I got back to some cartooning. The unwanted tariff war and nonsensical rhetoric spewed by the US president in his misperception, mischaracterization and misrepresentation of Canada has ignited the ire of many Canadians, and I am no exception. My character Sunny Bean has always tried to look at the more positive side of things, and forge a pathway to problems that are grounded in peace and common sense. Admittedly, that’s hard when common sense pushes against nonsense.
Hopefully some of these cartoons will resonate with those of us who are left wondering how this all came to be and what we can do to stand up for ourselves.

My wife and I have raised funds by selling my Sunny Bean cards for VOBOC, a local non-profit that provides assistance to adolescents and young adults living with cancer. Thanks to many generous donations, we’ve surpassed last year’s total and are now over $1,000. Many thanks!

This is a drawing I made eight years ago – still relevant today.

For the second year in a row, my wife and I have raised funds through the sale of Christmas cards for the VOBOC Foundation, which helps adolescents and young adults living with cancer. My character SunnyBean is on the card once again. Cards are almost sold out; if we sell all of them, we will raise $800.
